Equipment

  • parchment paper
  • baking sheet
  • Mixing Bowl
  • pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup whole milk plain greek yogurt
  • Trader Joe's everything but the bagel seasoning

egg wash

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degree Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and onion powder. Then add the yogurt and combine. Stir with a rubber spatula until a sticky dough forms (you may need to use your hands).
  • On a lightly floured surface dump out your sticky dough and begin rolling into a log shape. Make sure the entire log is equal in thickness.Cut into three equal parts and use each piece to form three circular bagels. Set each dough bagel onto parchment lined baking sheet and begin prepping your egg wash.
  • Make your egg wash by whisking 1 large egg and 1 tablespoon of water in a small bowl. Using a handheld brush, dip the brush into the egg wash and brush over top each bagel. Immediately follow this step with pouring “everything but the” seasoning on top of each bagel. Add as much or as little seasoning as you want. I prefer extra seasoning.
  • Place your bagels in the oven to bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes before slicing in half. After slicing your bagel in half, toast each slice and enjoy with your favorite toppings. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Notes

Flour- Feel free to evenly sub out whole wheat flour with all purpose, oat, or almond flour. If using almond flour, I recommend adding an additional teaspoon of baking soda.
Yogurt- if dairy free, you can sub out whole milk Greek yogurt for coconut yogurt. Keep in mind, there may be a slight coconut flavor. I haven’t tried using cashew yogurt yet, so if you do please let me know how it works out.
Egg- the egg wash is important in this recipe because it creates a nice solidified top for the seasoning to stick to. If you don’t have eggs/ don’t eat eggs you can add the seasoning to the dough right after mixing. Simply dump in as much seasoning as you desire to the sticky dough, stirring until evenly distributed and then rolling the doll out into a log on a lightly floured surface.
Everything but the bagel seasoning- There are off brand seasonings that are very similar to this one from Trader joe’s. You can easily use one from simply organics or Wegman’s brand.
