Chocolate Cherry Collagen Smoothie
I decided to update this post for many reasons. For one, I revamped this recipe and I’ve definitely found the perfect balance of texture and flavor! I also wanted to re-share it because it’s a delicious smoothie to enjoy all year long, not just during the warmer months! I hope you enjoy it as often as I do (like twice a week!).
Now, I am not one to favor protein bars, powders, cookies etc. However, I’m in love with this product. I have been adding 1-2 scoops of this powder to my smoothies every day and I am loving (and feeling) the benefits. This specific product is Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides. This company states that the product is “made with just one ingredient, and this specific protein encourages hair, skin, and nail health, overall gut health, supports bones and joints, and aids in muscle recovery.”
Why I love Vital Proteins?
I cannot rave enough about how much this product works with my body and my lifestyle. It’s easy, taste like- well, nothing! So, I don’t have to deal with that chalky after taste similar to the one you would get if you were drinking a protein shake.
I also want to add that there is nothing wrong with anyone who favors different protein products because if that’s what works well for you and you feel great consuming them, then that’s absolutely fantastic! You do you. That’s the beauty of this health world, there’s no one diet or product that fits all. It’s a trial and error process when finding the health and wellness products that work specifically for you.
Do what works best for you!
Personally, I feel my best (mentally and physically) when I get my protein from whole foods like organic eggs, chicken, fish, beans, nuts and veggies. For some reason (which I later discovered in life) I experienced headaches when sampling different protein powders. As much as I tried to force myself to like it I just couldn’t. I would see my peers drinking cool protein shakes, talking about how much they loved this brand or that brand and (as silly as it sounds) it made me sort of jealous. However, after attending the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, I realized it’s OKAY that I can’t drink majority of protein powders. Even though these types of products work well for others, they just don’t work well for me.
My experience with protein powder can be summed up as, “One person’s food is another person’s poison.” Not being able to enjoy protein powders just gave me another reason to search for more fun protein recipes to curate, like this one! It’s the perfect balance of tart, sweet and chocolatey! It’s also packed with delicious nutrients and keeps you feeling full.
Health benefits?
This smoothie contains protein, healthy fats, collagen, calcium a variety of vitamins and antioxidants. Great for breakfast, lunch or an afternoon snack.
You can enjoy this smoothie for many reasons, one being it’s absolutely delicious and two, it’s loaded with vitamins and nutrients. Thanks to all of the fruits and veggies it’s loaded with all sorts of vitamins and fiber so your gut and immune system with thrive once you drink it.
The almond butter, flax seed and chia seeds add healthy fats and fiber which will keep your digestive tract moving and grooving. The collagen peptides will help aid in healthy hair, skin and nail growth. The collagen peptides will also aide in muscle repair thanks to its added protein.
I’m telling you, its well rounded smoothie full of awesome nutrition and yummy flavor!
